Zolder, 22st July 2022. A mere three weeks separate us from the 24 Hours of Zolder, with the Limburg classic bringing about the second part of the season of the national endurance championship. In the battle for the title everything is still open and after three of the six races we have four different makes in the top-4 of the championship. PK Carsport and Audi lead the pack, but are closely followed by Porsche, BMW and Lamborghini. On 13th and 14thAugust the 24 Hours of Zolder will be the scene for a very thrilling second part of the season.
Before taking a closer look at the championship standings, we first look ahead to the upcoming edition of the Limburg endurance classic. The race is the first normal edition since 2019, due of course to the well-known reasons.
Harry Steegmans, General Manager Circuit Zolder, is therefore delighted to introduce the longest race of the year at Circuit Zolder: “We are in for another great edition, with a splendid starting field. As yet we have no definite numbers, but a number around the ‘40’ is certainly feasible, and that in a first season with once again several GT and Touring Car. Besides the 20 to 25 regular participants, we can count on a few big teams, such RedAnt Racing and Xwift Racing Events, but there are also other teams that will make their appearance. We are also looking into a balanced division between GT and Touring Cars, with some twenty cars on each side. In the coming days we will systematically reveal the names, although we respect the fact that the teams enjoy having the scoop when it comes to introducing their formations.”
PK Carsport ahead of Tip Top Rent and Stevens Motorsport
In the meanwhile, the Limburg based PK Carsport team has reached the 100 points mark in the Belcar Endurance Championship standings. For the second time this season the team comprised out of father and son Longin and Peter Guelinckx won in Spa-Francorchamps, and as such have an eleven-point lead over Tip Top Rent, where we find the trio Peters/Gulicher/De Cock at the wheel of their Porsche Cayman. The best Touring Car, the BMW M2 CS manned by the Stevens family is presently third in the rankings, just ahead of the powerful Totaalplan Racing Lamborghini of Verheyen/Wauters. The top 5 is completed by a trio, with Koen and Kris Wauters in the Belgium Racing Porsche 992 GT3 RS, their team mates Dylan Derdaele and Michael Cool and the Terclavers brothers (TCL Motorsport BMW M2 CS), who share their car with Lars Zaenen. Close behind them we find the best representative in the TB-class with Simtag Racing.
Worth noting the excellent battle between the young wolves in the Junior Trophy of the Belcar Endurance Championship. Here Michiel Haverans (Belgium Racing) leads the debate, a great performance, but the competition is definitely not resigned to letting him retain his leader’s position. Brent Verheyen (Totaalplan Racing) follows on eleven points, but also Arthur Peters (Tip Top Rent), Jochen Stevens (Stevens Motorsport) and Lars Zaenen (TCL Motorsport) are still in contention, as are Alexander Borgmans and Vincent Convents (Alnimax Racing and Convents Racing Team). Eveline Maes and Yana Loeman will be duelling it out to be the fastest female driver.
